Why We Exist

“We lost our daughter, Kelsea, in 2017 because we were unable to obtain a ‘match’ for her, but perhaps, one day through a collective effort, many lives will be saved.

Most of us don’t realize we possess a phenomenal gift that could save a life. We can’t produce it on our own for it is a gift that only God gives. Project Life Movement encourages us to share that gift to preserve another’s life, and we are proud to partner on such an important mission.”

– Cynthia Randolph, mother of Kelsea Randolph (pictured)

  Did you know?

Bone marrow donation and transplantation has been one of the world’s best-kept secrets for providing cures for blood cancers and other life-threatening blood conditions. For the past 30-plus years, this treatment has saved the lives of countless leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia patients.

Our History

  1987

National Marrow Donor Program

In 1987, the “National Marrow Donor Program” was created to help people with blood cancers and conditions. It was created to connect patients, whose only chance for a cure is a bone marrow transplant, with volunteer donors.

  1990

    "Asset

Project Life Movement

In 1990, a group of forward-thinking Davidson College students asked for the support of their president, John Kuykendall, in developing a national registry to connect patients with potential bone marrow donors.

And, on March 13, 1990, that wish was granted.

Davidson College held its first “Project Life Bone Marrow Donor Recruitment Drive,” and as a result, approximately 500 students, staff, and faculty joined the Project Life Movement. This began a 30-year odyssey into saving the lives of people with blood cancers and conditions throughout the US.

  2011

501(c)3 Status

In 2011, Project Life Movement was officially granted 501(c)3 nonprofit status by the United States IRS. Now, contributions are tax-deductible, and we can be even better stewards of your generosity and support. You can download our latest Form 990 and other important documents on our Fiscal Responsibility page.

Gift of Life Marrow Registry

In 2018, we partnered with the Gift of Life Marrow Registry organization to take our operational efficiencies to a whole new level. With their quick and easy-to-use mobile app, it is now easier than ever for us to help others join the registry. Gift of Life Marrow Registry is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to curing blood cancer once and for all, and they have already proven to be an excellent partner on our journey to increasing the number of potential donors on the stem cell & blood marrow global registry.

  2019

Looking Forward

Since our very first drive back in 1990, more than 65 universities and partners have joined the movement. And, guess what? Project Life Movement plans to expand to college campuses across the nation to address the growing need of stem cell and bone marrow donors!

Our aim is to educate students on just how easy and fulfilling it is to help people in need. We want these individuals to understand that they can change lives and impact the world.
